10 Ways to Get You to the BEST You!
I am warmly welcoming these hot spring days and the later sunsets. Spring is a time of transition, change and regrowth. This year my focus is on growth and regrowth: for myself, my family, my practice and the future health of each of these. I want to be able to support my patients on their own health and wellness journey; below are some ways that we can each grow, learn and heal together. I’ve put together my top 5 tips for supporting yourself and top 5 ways that I can support you as a Naturopathic Doctor this spring and summer.
Top 5 Tips to Support Yourself
These tips are meant to support your growth and health so that you feel your best self through the remainder of this year and beyond.
Get Outside
Nature is abundant right now! If your lacking in motivation, joy, and vitamin D get outside and reap the endless benefits that the fresh air, warm sun and new life brings. There is expansion and growth happening all around us; all that you have to do is be open to seeing and experiencing it, and it will flow towards and within you. There is no doubt that these last 13 plus months have been hard on all of us in different ways and in different capacities; if you can afford yourself the time and energy to get outside, take advantage of it.
Eat the Rainbow
More variety in colour and form of vegetation helps to strengthen and support gut health. A strong gut = strong(er) immune system. There are simple ways to increase variety without breaking the bank or throwing your kids or partner for a loop with a diet overhaul. This can include trying out one new vegetable each week that you have not already had that month. You can also aim to eat sprouted foods, micro greens and the fresh, seasonal foods from the farmers markets.
Meditate
We often forget this, but we create our own reality. Two people can have the exact same experience and interpret it very differently. We can either approach life with love, gratitude, joy and opportunity or approach it with fear, negativity and scarcity. The way you choose to interpret your circumstances, regardless of what they are, has the power to change your outlook on what is happening in your life. Meditation can really help to make your mind a happy place to live and helps to navigate any challenges that happen in your day to day. It not only helps to get us back into the present moment, it also helps us to shift our perception of reality to a more positive perspective. I have made a conscious choice to incorporate meditation into my nightly routine, it doesn’t happen every night, but I do sleep better and am working on utilizing the techniques into my daily life.
Sleep
Sleep is how the body recovers. Melatonin is best known as our sleep hormone, but it does far more than just help us sleep. It’s a powerful antioxidant and has anti-tumor properties. You can support your melatonin production by sticking to a bedtime routine or by shifting to an earlier bedtime if it tends to be later than 10:30pm and eliminating any blue light exposure in the bedroom until the morning. That means no scrolling Instagram, answering emails or watching TV in bed.
Sweat
Moving our bodies is detoxing, energizing, good for the cardiovascular system and for your mood. Do you struggle with maintaining attention span with the shift to virtual life and work through the pandemic? Your brain needs a break, even if you don’t get a full sweat in, get up and move your body if you’re feeling stagnant, fatigued or glum.
Top 5 Ways I Can Support You
IV Nutrient Therapy
Whatever your health concerns may be, IV nutrient therapy or nutrient injections can be an important part of your individualized treatment plan to get you to optimal health. Unlike with eating food or taking oral supplements, you get full access and bioavailability of the nutrients because we bypass your digestive system. IV nutrient therapy may not be for everyone, but that’s why I appropriately screen and go over alternative treatments with each patient to make sure we’re on the same page and making the right choice for you.
Look Good Feel Good
There’s something to be said about this phrase. Whether it means changing out of those 5-day old sweats and getting yourself ready for the day, or coming in for an aesthetic treatment – when you look good, you tend to feel even better. No shame, no judgement. I can help you achieve your beauty goals using neurotoxins and dermal fillers. If you’re curious how these treatments work and what they can do for you, I’d love to see you for a complimentary skin consult.
Discover Your Food “Frenemies”
Are some of your favourite foods making you feel sick, boated and ill? I can help you discover what foods your body isn’t loving right now, with food sensitivity testing. Depending on what’s going on with your digestion, we may have to implement the 4 R’s: 1- Remove the offending foods, 2- Replenish deficient enzymes, 3- Repopulate with probiotics and 4 – Repair any possible inflammation and damage to the digestive tract.
Daily Poop
This is simple, if you’re not having a bowel movement that feels satisfying and complete each day you should be! “Normal” bowel movements can be anything from 1-3 times/ day soft, formed and easy to pass. If you don’t fall within this category let me help you get back on track!
Get in the Rhythm
This one is specific to my ladies on a monthly cycle. If you’re done having your period control your life every month – because for one reason or another it’s too heavy, too painful, or is late cycle after cycle I can help you get your hormones back in a healthy cyclical rhythm.
